FRAA Girls' Basketball Program

FRAA girls basketball is open to any girl who lives within the Franklin Regional School District area—attending Franklin Regional schools is not required. The program offers two league options based on commitment and skill level. We have a lot of volunteer positions available if you are interested in becoming apart of our Basketball Community, please reach out to the VPs of Girls’ Basketball, listed below. Each child must bring their own ball to Practices, Open Gyms, and Games. It is also recommended that players purchase a pair of Basketball Shoes.

RECREATIONAL IN-HOUSE BASKETBALL PROGRAM

The FRAA In-House League is offered for any skill level and any girl who wants to play, from first through sixth grade.

Registration will close September 23rd  this year.  After registration closes, teams will be assigned, and no late registrants will be accepted. We usually have about 4-6 teams per Grade level. Each team will play 1-2 games per week and have practices 1 day per week and group practice on weekends starting in October.  The Season ends with a Championship held in early January.

Details for the Recreational League:

  • Paid Certified Referees for all games except 1st and 2nd grade
  • Jerseys included with registration fee
  • At least two parents volunteer to be the Coaches per team
  • Open Gym opportunities dependent on facility availability

TRAVEL BASKETBALL PROGRAM

FRAA offers a competitive travel program to girls in 3rd through 6th grade.  The travel basketball program is for those kids who are passionate about the game and want to continue furthering their basketball skills and knowledge.  The overall goal of our travel program is to offer these players:

  • The ability to play more competitive basketball games with a higher level of competition
  • Teach basic and advanced individual and team concepts in order to develop players for middle school and high school basketball
  • Teach kids how to communicate, play as a team, and consistently demonstrate good sportsmanship

Coaches are parent volunteers for the Travel Teams as well. If you wish to be a head Coach for a Travel Team, you must sign up during travel tryout registration prior to tryouts.  Our goal is to form multiple teams at every age division.  There are open tryouts in October each year.  Parents are not allowed in the gym during tryouts.  Please note: All Players who tryout are not guaranteed to roster a spot on a travel team.  Additional fees will be required for players who accept spots on the travel teams. Travel teams play against other local schools with similar programs, up to a 60-mile radius.

As a travel team member, a player can expect to practice 2 times per week from November through March with at least one game a week beginning in December.  Many of our travel coaches enter a second league or play in extra tournaments throughout the basketball season. A trip to Penn State for States in March may also be an option if the team qualifies.  Extra Tournaments and States would be additional expenses. Fundraising may be an option dependent on availability.

All Travel Players in Grades 3-6 are also required to play in the FRAA Recreational In-House League listed above. You will have to complete two separate registration links to do both Travel and In-House Leagues.
